You’re Invited! December Get-Acquainted Evening

  • Monday, December 4, 6:00 – 7:30pm
  • at the Cochrane Toyota Community Room

This evening is an opportunity for anyone interested in the arts to come together and build community. Get to know who else is involved in the arts. Make friends, contacts, collaboration partners, etc.

We will also put up some flip chart pages to start writing down ideas – what kind of events do you want to see Cochrane Arts do? What do you want in a future Arts Facility? What can we do to build a strong arts community? How would you like to be involved in the arts community?

I’m planning a meeting in January (date to be announced) where we will explore these ideas in more detail and start the process of putting together a team or council or whatever we call it.

Meanwhile, join us on Monday evening, take a break from all the Christmas stuff, and come have a fun evening meeting other creative people. And please – pass the word along to anyone you know that might want to come and find out more.

I look forward to seeing you there!

What do you want?

For Cochrane Arts to become truly successful, I need to know what you want or need.

Sometimes we don’t get what we want simply because we have never taken the time to really think through what we need or want.

So that’s what I’m asking you to do.

First, I presume you are in some sort of arts or creative venture in your life or you wouldn’t be reading this in the first place.

So take some time to write down what you are involved with, or what you would like to be involved with.

Next, think about where you would like to go with that? What would you like to accomplish with that? It doesn’t have to be anything really big or amazing (although I would certainly encourage you to explore the possibilities). It could be something as simple as being creative as a way of relieving stress in your life – something you do for the pleasure and enjoyment of it.

Once you have an idea of where you would like to go with this, then think through what you might need to get you there. Make a list. Maybe you need to take a course, find a mentor, get experience, get help setting up a website, learning how to be financially wise as an artist, etc.

Once you have that list, send me a copy. Tell me what you want to get done, what you see as the steps along the way – and then underline the ones where you could use help – in whatever way that might be.

To make it easy,  fill in the details in the form below and submit it.

I don’t know yet just what we will do, but I’d like to see what people are looking for so that I can start planning accordingly.

Thanks so much for your help with this.

Get Acquainted Events

One of my goals for Cochrane Arts is to build community in the arts community.

So last night I hosted what I hope will be the first of many Get-Acquainted events.

This morning I got an e-mail from one of the guests who had this to say:

It has been a while since I’ve been able to have a creative dialog with other artistic and diverse talent.  What a wonderful idea you have launched, bringing local talent together and providing a mutual support network for the local creative community.  As you know, an artist can tend to be isolated with their own personal projects.  You are providing a valuable platform for the community!

I don’t think I could say it much better myself.

If you would like to get to know others from our arts community here in Cochrane, please sign up here. Space is somewhat limited, so I need an idea of how many to prepare for.

I’ll be sending out notices in the weekly Discover Cochrane Arts newsletter, but first dibs will go to those who sign up.

The next Get-Acquainted event will be Monday, December 4 at from 7:00 to about 8:30 pm.
